USS BAILEY at Dutch Harbor, Various Crew (My Uncle, Coy Vandiver S1c, is in second row center with arrow) Notable is the freedom to have cigars, Captain Atkeson enjoyed the cigar and obviously extended this freedom to his crew along with the freedom to grow beards. USS BAILEY spent six months in the most inhospitable climate of the global war from 28 September 1942 until April 1943.
